Episode 019 - Guadalupe Peak Recap of 2024 (Part 2)
Michael Trevino (EmTee) joins Dr. DLH and Jaime to recap the 2024 trip to Guadalupe Peak.
Climb to the "Top of Texas" with a hike up Guadalupe Peak. Guadalupe Peak is a rewarding, although very strenuous, 8.4 mile round trip hike with a 3,000 foot elevation gain. It will take from six to eight hours to complete the hike.
- EmTee gives the perspective of the other Brothers that went on the trip.
Issue a verdict and some tips for hiking Guadalupe Peak.
I'm a damn doctor! Doctor! David. I refuse to not drink during the podcast. Yeah. And me, Jaime. They need to make podcast equipment a lot more expensive to get some of these clowns off the
SPEAKER_03:air.
SPEAKER_02:Gather around as we discuss a modern manly approach to chivalry. So I hope you're ready because I know we are. So let's get into it. Hey, how's it going? Right, DLH? No? Yeah. We're here with the Chivalry Chronicles and interviewing MT. What's your first name, MT? MT? It's E-M-M. No, it's T-E-E. No, it's Michael. Michael Trevino. All the brothers call me MT, though. It's been like that forever. MT. MT was part of the Guadalupe Peak hike last year in January, and we just did another one here this January. So we had said on a podcast, let's have MT come back on so that he can tell us his version of it from last year. Last year, we started off with Six Brothers. Three of us, I think, went forward, and three of us stayed back. I am of the other three. So we have the three that went forward. We need the story of the three that stayed back. There's a couple of questions that we had that we'll ask you as you continue. But tell us your version of it, what your thought process was when you were walking through, when you got to the front of the line. When did you decide, okay, you know what? What's going on here? How are we going to get through this? So tell us your version of it. All right. So I just want to start off this podcast right because I think I've heard like twos and threes and fours, not tens, but four or five of y'all's podcasts. Wow. Yeah. Wow. You hear this? Tried to find the amount. That's terrible. Listen more. Yeah. The least amount of David I can put on. Oh, man. He's on all of it. Now I get it. He's on all of them. So I just want to open my... Oh, there we go. Okay. Very nice. I just want to make sure that that happens. Okay. My version of events as part of the back three, I guess you would call us. Well, just tell us your story. So, yeah. So last time, like the one we did in January, we actually went in on a Friday, correct? We drove over there on a Friday. We actually hung out, drank beer, I mean, we did a bunch of stuff that this year we did not. So if you heard the last episode... Yeah, I did hear that one. Right. Yeah, we're actually like preparing and... I know. Last time we were having all kinds of fun. I don't know about eating well. No, we kind of... We were tired. We were also cold the night before. That house was cold. Was it? Yeah. Well, no. Not as cold as... We had an awesome house. I thought that house was... Well, we didn't. Pete and I sat in a freaking garage, basically. They converted the garage and it was freezing back there. Well, that's where Dan and I stayed in there. Exactly. Exactly. Add on. Yeah. All right. So go ahead. I mean, I'd like to start all the way at the house, actually, because... Thank you. I got up in the morning and I was like, all right, man. Well, we went to the store the night before, bought a bunch of food. We're like, all right, we need eggs and potatoes and bacon. I'm like, all right. So I woke up. I started cooking up all that stuff, made potato and egg tacos, made bacon, warmed up the tortillas, got everything ready. And I probably ate like... Four to five tacos. I was carb loading. I was like, I got to do that. So that was my process for getting ready. And then we drove to the site. I just remember it taking a long time to get there. It felt very long to get there. We went to the wrong entrance. That's right. We did. We went to the wrong entrance. I was very much trying to figure out what time it was and what time we were starting, which is always a problem
SPEAKER_03:in
SPEAKER_02:that area because you're going back and forth an hour depending upon where you are. And my phone is not catching up to whatever time it is. And if you have an Apple Watch, it bounces around because it just picks up whatever. Yeah, it geolocates you and doesn't know where you are. So we went to the wrong place, left there, and then finally got to the right place. Right. I want to say... Eight or nine o'clock. No, it was more like 11. Yeah. No wonder. No wonder. It was more like 11, 1130. Yeah. Cause we made it, we tried to make an effort to get there earlier this time and we ended up same, same damn time, which was always like, God dog it. We should have left earlier. Yeah. But I'd forgotten about the whole time, the time switch back and forth. So we got to the site, we're at the bottom of the mountain. There's, of course, the bathroom that's there. So I'm like, all right, I got to get everything out now. Sorry, I'm just going to put it that way. That's as much as I'm going to say. I got everything out that I could. I did not want to go. TMI, we can cut that part out. No, this is good stuff.
SPEAKER_03:What's
SPEAKER_02:the good stuff? This is good material. So did that. And then, so we start walking. We take, oh no, we take our little picture at the front. Correct. The picture that we take, just in case we get lost, this is what's going to be on the news. Yes, yes. These six idiots. Nobody's hiked before. I've been lost for two days. News at 11. So, yeah, so then we start walking. And my thought is, I was chairman at the time. It wasn't like a really like a, like a, I have to do this. It's like I should do this. I should be at the front. But the thing about me being at the front is I went up there and I'm like, all right, I'm just going to walk. And I walked like I normally walk, which is quite quickly. Yes, I agree. Sorry, mosquito. I walked quite quickly. And then so I'm walking. And I don't turn around for like the first 30 to 45 minutes. Right. And I'm like, man, I'm starting to breathe a little heavy. Like, don't turn around, don't turn around, don't turn around. Don't be a bitch. They're going to see you puffing and puffing. But then I hear out of my peripheral hearing. Peripheral hearing. That's a new term. That's a new term. Okay. Gotcha. I hear Sonny kind of. Okay. So put your scene. You're first. Yeah. And then Sonny? No. It was me. And I want to say David. I want to say David. Yeah. And Miguel. Miguel. Dan wasn't there. Dan wasn't there. No. It was you, David, Miguel. And then you. Then Sonny. Then Pete. And I went. Well, like I said, I didn't turn around, so I wasn't sure. I went to the end. He was pulling up the rear. Yeah, because I was like, okay, everybody's going that way. I'm just going to stay at the end to make sure everybody's kind of on a good pace. Not falling over. Exactly. And hindsight being 2020 now, I think that's kind of where I should have been.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_02:Because the leader, like the leader of the pack, it's not necessarily the leader of the pack. It's you need to make sure that everybody who is under you is kind of in a good spot. Yes. And that's why as soon as I heard Sonny kind of having trouble wheezing, you know, a little, you know, more out of breath than I was, and I was out of breath.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_02:I went to the back to walk with Sonny. Okay. To make sure he was okay. So that's kind of where the whole line kind of shifted. Okay.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_02:And that's where it started to split a little bit. Right. Because it was you, Dave, and Miguel. Miguel, correct. And then Pete was doing the same thing that I was doing. He was checking on me and Sonny, making sure that we were okay.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_02:And that's kind of how we split. And then so as we keep going, and I'm bad with mileage and however far it was. Right. But, like, I'd say, like, a good mile in, two miles in, like... our ranks started to be two groups. And it was two groups by like 100 yards at least. And at one point, I yell forward, I'm like, hey, wait, wait up. And Dave was like, no, no, we're just gonna be right here. We're just gonna be right here. We're just a little bit further. Just wait, stop. Don't wait, just stop. And he's like, all right, whatever. And I go to Dave and I'm like, give me the keys. because dave had the keys to the truck so like if if i don't make it if i have to take um sunny back
SPEAKER_01:yeah
SPEAKER_02:like i don't want to be sitting out in the cold that to me was genius like when when i heard that discussion because you're right and i said this on the previous podcast david was like we're gonna make it we're gonna make it and i had conversations with david i was like bro at the pace that we're going we're not making it as a group we're not making daylight Yeah. And what I told him, I was like, my suggestion to him was like, let's pick a time that we're going to turn around because we're not making it. And if we all want to be together, we need to do that. And David was like, no, we're going to make it. We're going to make it. And he just marching forward like nobody's business. Like willing everybody. Yes. Like just because you're walking forward, I'm looking back and everybody's struggling. Yeah. And so I said, I'm going to go forward with you. But we have brothers back there that are not at this pace. So continue. And I'll be honest, I didn't do a lot of working out to do this. They're like, oh yeah, it's a walk, it's a hike. It's not. It was hard. It was not. It was like, yeah, next level hiking. I think I did do walking, but along my street. If I walk between where I live, Petrenko and Military... It's a mile each way. So if I go back and forth, it's two miles and it's uphill.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:So I was like, all right, that's cool. Like, you know, I'll get a little conditioning. No, that wasn't enough. No, it wasn't enough. No, I want to say the steps were probably in the neighborhood of two and a half feet to three feet, like the steps at the beginning. Yeah, those steps are killer. And those are, I mean, I think one lady that was coming down, she's like, oh, no, no, when you take the steps, go sideways. Sideways, yep, we figured that coming down. That's genius. Like, you should have told us that before. For a little while
SPEAKER_01:until your hips get you.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Well, my legs were already getting me, so I was fine with my hips taking over a little bit. They definitely start to on the way back down.
SPEAKER_01:Yes. But that key thing. Yes. Everybody should consider the key thing because when we were coming on the way back down and Dan had the keys and Dan was like 300 yards behind us all the way up there and I was ahead and they were like, you know what? DLH should take the keys so he can go start the truck and turn on the heater. And it's like, okay, great. Where are the keys? Dan has them. Damn it. So that's where we had to, we had to, everyone had to stop and wait until Dan
SPEAKER_02:caught
SPEAKER_01:up.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I think we should have thought it out a little bit better, but anyway, go ahead. Going forward. So it's, it's me. It's, it's me, Pete and Sonny for the foreseeable rest of the way that, that I made it to, um, at one point, um, Again, four or five miles in. I don't know. I don't even know how long is the whole thing. It's four miles up, four miles back. Okay, then I'm going to say... So in technical, it's 8.4 total. Okay, I'm going to say 1.25 miles up. Sonny goes down. Really? He's cramping bad. He's like, I'm not going to make it. Go on without me. Yeah, exactly. He was pretty much there. And Pete was like... Are you sure? And I'm like, are you sure? And he's like, yeah. He's like, I'm just going to sit here. I'm going to take some rest. And then I'm going to start walking back down. And me and Pete are like, all right. And so we forge ahead. And so we start walking. And we're getting to the two-mile mark, maybe. And I start cramping up. And when you start cramping up on this mountain, it's not like, oh, I got to cramp in this part of my leg. No. fully all my legs. Really? Just like tight. He was like, screw you. What are you doing? And I'm telling Pete, I'm like, bro, I'm cramming up bad. And I'm eating sunflower seeds. I'm drinking tons of water. I'm trying to just get electrolytes in me and maybe I just didn't bring the right thing or whatever. You
SPEAKER_01:need a bottle of mustard. Mustard.
SPEAKER_02:I had pickle juice. But you need a lot. Yeah, you need a lot. But you need a bit full. But anyway, go ahead. So I'm like, I'm cramping up. Let me stand here for a little bit. Right. And this is the part. Where everybody wants to know. Everybody wants to know. Well, let me set it up, right? Let me set it up. So we're ahead and we take a break. And then I look back and all I see is MT in the middle of the trail with his pants down by his ankles. I don't know if they were down by my ankles. That's a little much. That's a little much because I would not have had the strength to go all the way down to my ankles. Pete is about waist high. So what was going on? Pete's like, do you need me to rub your legs now? So that's what I don't understand. Like, I'm sorry. I love you guys, but I ain't doing that. I was like, all right. My legs are done, bro. So I expect him just, like, over my pants, like, just start, like, getting my legs. He's like, no, no, no. He's like, no, no, no. Even your chonies. No, chonies were on. Chonies were on. Like, what? Okay, so why offer that, though? Why do you think he offered that? I don't know. He's his brother's keeper. He's his brother's keeper. He's a down-ass brother. I don't know what
SPEAKER_01:you want me to say. He would need to be here in order to answer that. That's true. And we're going to ask him. We're going to ask him. With cameras and
SPEAKER_02:all that. Tell us why.
SPEAKER_01:So,
SPEAKER_02:okay. So he rubbed you down. My legs. Once or twice? Just the once? Just the once. Just my legs. It didn't do too much because, like I said, my legs were just rock solid. Did you just close your eyes and imagine like... You were at a Swedish parlor? I don't know. I've never been to one of those. I'm not just saying that because my wife is sitting right here. I'm not just saying that. So that happens. We trek on. And I'm still cramping up, but we're going. And now we're on the backside of that mountain where at night it got really icy. How far up did y'all get? Okay, so I want to say we got halfway. Okay. Halfway up the mountain. Halfway up. So like two miles. Because we went up and then we started to go around it, right?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yes.
SPEAKER_01:That's like two and a half miles up.
SPEAKER_02:And then there's that long corridor, that long narrow corridor.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Okay. And then you get to the end of that and then you start going up. Yes. We got to the end of the narrow corridor or I got to the end of the narrow corridor before we started going up. Okay. And I collapsed right there. there was like a good sitting spot and I was like, I'm done. And I said, and it was already dark. It was already getting dark. Okay. So we're talking about like sundown. I want to say it was like five 20, something like that. And I want to say like, when I was in that, at that point, me and Pete were there and we look up and y'all are yelling down at us. Hey. And I mean, y'all are, I don't know, 300 feet up, 400 feet up. And I'm looking at y'all and y'all still have like 250 more feet to go. Absolutely. It was ridiculous. So I'm looking up there and I'm like, nope, I'm done. So I tell Pete, I said, Pete, I'm going to sit here. I'm going to get my legs back under me. And where was Sonny and all? OK, that's to come. OK, so I sit down. Pete's like, OK, well, I'm going to keep going. I'm like, go for it, bro. OK, get it. And he goes. All right. And then that's where y'all story comes in and he comes back and y'all see him at the end. So where, where I stayed, I stayed there and I'm just sitting there probably for about 10 or 15 minutes. And so finally, um, no, cause I'll cut that part, but it's okay. Um, so I'm sitting there and then in the distance I see Sonny. Wow. Okay. And I'm like, no way. And he's like, hey, T. I'm like, what's up, bro? He's like, oh, I got a second wind. I'm like, that's badass, man. And he gets to me and he's like, what do you want to do? Okay. And I look up and this lady comes down who's like a park ranger. Yes. That might be the same lady. The same freaking lady. Yes. And she hears us talking about like, hey, what are y'all going to do? What are we going to do? And I said, we're not gonna make it down before it gets dark. And I told her, I told Sunny, I don't wanna walk back in the dark. We have no light. No, none. We have like no spikes and it's already icy. Absolutely. I was like, I am not walking back in the dark. I was like, let's go. And she hears that and she's like, I'm glad to hear y'all say that. Because a lot of people, when they come to this mountain, they're like, hey, do or die. And I don't like, she said, I don't like that last word because you don't need to die for this. You don't need to get hurt for this. You know, you come back, you do it, you know, you make it great, but you don't need to hurt yourself over this. You know, it's good to have a reasonable head on your
SPEAKER_03:shoulders.
SPEAKER_02:And so we did. So we started going back. Well, that's different than what she told us. I mean, y'all some little bitches. What? You're going to turn around? Man, get y'all's
SPEAKER_01:ass out of here. No. Other than being about two and a half minutes too talkative, that lady was really helpful. Yeah, she was fine. She was all right. But that two and a half minutes was us not
SPEAKER_02:meeting that goal. Yeah, absolutely. So you go all the way back. So me and Sonny, we start walking back in the daylight, which I'm happy about.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And I mean, that's pretty much it. You know, it's the same view going back. It's icy as shit. So we're trying not to slip. We get back to the car, turn the fucking heater on. So what time do you think you got back to the car? I can tell you what time we got back to the car. How long did you have to wait until they got back? Yes, that's the other question. Oh man, I don't know. I want to say a good four hours. Probably, yes. Damn,
SPEAKER_01:you were just in the car for four hours?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, because, so we get a text from Pete that says, still hiking question mark. And so David and I are looking at each other like, does he mean are we still hiking? Are we coming back down? Or does he mean... Did we fall off? Yeah, or wait there because I'm coming up. He didn't say I am coming up or he just said still hiking. And so we're sitting, I said, when we got up to the top, I told David, I was like, man, we got about 30 minutes before sundown. So we need to decide what we're going to do and get the hell on. So then that's when we see Pete coming up. And so I was like, well, shit, now we got to wait another 20 minutes because we can't very well just start turning around, going back down, you know, because Pete's going to need some time to rest. But I want to say they probably sat at the truck for a couple hours, two, three hours. Yeah. Yeah. Let me see. So we took this. Let me see this picture. This picture was not I couldn't do that. Well, maybe 527 p.m. Really? Yeah. Wow. According to my phone. And then it started to get dark was it's dark at nine. Okay, that's when I start to see y'all. Yeah. Because my phone, Samsung, shout out to Samsung. Shout out to Samsung. Takes awesome nighttime photos. Like this, this is a nighttime photo. It is pitch black outside and it corrects. Show the camera, sir. It corrects. Oh, y'all can see this? Show the camera. That is nice. And then in here, you see like this little light. See that light? Yeah. I think that was y'all. I think you're right. So y'all are still coming down the mountain at that time.
SPEAKER_01:Speaking of which, I would switch to Samsung if they sponsored this
SPEAKER_02:podcast. I would too. Samsung, there you go. You heard it here. You heard it here first. All you got to do is sponsor the podcast and you get two more for$1 million. For three years. So that was around 9 o'clock. Y'all probably got back to... I want to say, no, I want to say it was like right after nine. So you're, I think your time's a little off. Maybe you might've been an hour. Yeah. And it could be the, I think we got back by like nine, nine 30. And then see, that's the other thing that's kind of really, when I think about the two trips, they really tripped me out because when we got back to the freaking house, we played poker for like the rest of the night. Yeah. We were up, we ate, um, Pizza, right? We got pizza. And then we were playing poker. It was badass. It was a great time. This time... we all knocked out of it yeah we were dying we came back we ate pizza i think dave was literally yes we ate some pizza i heard i heard the podcast his voice was gone he was bad yeah yeah but every time we were like oh who's gonna get off the car to go get these pizzas
SPEAKER_01:it was it hurt everything
SPEAKER_02:everything hurt yeah for sure i mean even the time that we were in the car i was just Trying not to cramp up, getting out, walking around. But when we got back into
SPEAKER_01:the place and it was cold again, right? And then I think at some point, like Dan was already shaking, right? Or was it you? No. No, it was Dan. And then after we got in there, we had the pizza. And like I started eating while Dan was getting like the shower ready to go take a shower or whatever. And then I started getting there. It was like all the muscles are so damn tired. You just feel cold and shaky. Yeah. Yeah, that was unpleasant. So I don't think any of us had– we did not have the energy. So
SPEAKER_02:just for the record, I would have played poker if they wanted to
SPEAKER_01:play. Well, you know what? We probably could have played if we didn't spend– 45 minutes in the car podcasting.
SPEAKER_02:We were waiting for pizza. We were waiting for the pizza. No, but there was a long time before
SPEAKER_01:he even went in to place the order because you were mid-episode. We started recording on the drive-thru. Hey, that's on
SPEAKER_02:David. In this day and age, you could just do it on your phone. While you're driving. No, no, we
SPEAKER_01:were stopped.
SPEAKER_02:We were
SPEAKER_01:stopped. Because we were like, what, a good 37 minutes in? And then he was like, all right, I'm going to take a break and go order the pizza. And then we kept talking. And then he came back in. So we didn't need him.
SPEAKER_02:Obviously. All right. So here's the other question. Would you do it again? Yeah, I would. Great. Would you do it again now that you're a month away? I mean, a month from doing it?
SPEAKER_01:I think my position remains the same. I am neither a solid yes nor a solid no. But if it was going to be depending on who was going and there was, I don't know, enough energy around that, yeah, I would do it again.
SPEAKER_02:Okay. See, and the thing is, this time I think I would need, I don't know, like some kind of, what do you call it, exercise professional to help me out to get ready. Oh, a fitness professional. A fitness professional. You know what? I know a fitness professional. If only we knew one. We know a fitness professional. You're in luck. And he's a doctor. I would say like 75% off. Zero. Zero dollars he can help you. Okay, here's the other question. If you had to do it, let's say, would you do it by yourself? No. Yeah, me neither. Yeah, I mean, that's definitely something that you need. You need the motivation of other people around you. Correct. I agree. to do that and to make that, you know, to even make it fun. Right. You would just be too much in your head the whole time to do that on your own, I think. Okay, would you do it with your family? Like if Val was like, let's do it, and if Fem T would say, let's do it, when she was probably like 14 or 15, would you do it then? So I think Mia would do it before Val would do it. You think Mia would do it before Val? Come on now.
SPEAKER_00:If Mia is... If Mia were old enough... Hold on. If Mia were old enough where I felt like she could actually make it, then yes.
SPEAKER_02:So let's say she's like 17.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:You would
SPEAKER_00:do it? I would. But we would have to actually train for it. Like practice. Because this is not... Like he said, he would take those walks around the neighborhood. And I told him... That's not enough.
SPEAKER_01:It's not enough.
SPEAKER_00:His uncle told him, who goes on trails at national parks all across the country, told him, that's not enough. But he was like, no, it's fine.
SPEAKER_02:Hey, I'm an athlete. I'm an athlete. What do you
SPEAKER_00:want? I'm 300
SPEAKER_02:pounds. I'm 300 pounds, but I'm an athlete. What do you want to
SPEAKER_00:do? Yeah. So it would have to be something that we would have to decide, like, we're going to do it at least a year before, maybe even more, start training for something like that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And we were going to do those walks around the neighborhood or whatever, which you could do on a treadmill. And
SPEAKER_00:I would have to say, I don't, I remember when he went and I was calling him and talking to him like, Hey, you're not going to make it. Cause he texted
SPEAKER_03:me.
SPEAKER_00:He was like, we just left like the house. And I'm like, here it's noon. Like, what do you mean you just left? I thought you guys were, like, halfway up already. Like, I thought you were going to be there at dawn. So if we did it, then, yeah, it would have to be, like, make sure we take enough time to get there, rest up, get everything ready, get there early to do it all day and come back before a good start. And
SPEAKER_01:carry all the snacks.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I think that if we'd have started earlier and there'd have been more daylight... When Sonny got to me and he told me, what do you want to do? And if there was more daylight left and we had longer, I would have said, let's go. Let's keep going. Because my legs were back. I was super surprised that after 15 to 20 minutes of just sitting and drinking water and eating nuts or whatever, that my legs were back. So like I said, given enough time, And, you know, again, the proper training. I think it's pretty awesome that you'd be willing to do it again. Because, I mean, that just says something about the individual, right? Like, maybe, I don't know, I'm done. I don't know about you.
SPEAKER_01:You said you're still... You said you were done. I think I'm done now. You should have heard him bitching on the trail. Oh, man, it was terrible. I'm fucking retired. Yeah, I'm done.
SPEAKER_02:It was so bad. He was mad as hell. Well, here's why. It's because when we first did it, you don't know what you don't know. So you're just going, right? And David's like, let's just run a corner. I was like, bro, that shit gets old. We're not around the corner. And then we get to an area where... there's that bridge. And I see the bridge and I was like, oh man, we got to be there. And then we turn and we see the bridge and then it's like way up there. It's another freaking... On another peak. Yes, on another peak. And I'm like, this is bull. Like, no. And so this time, I know exactly where we are. I know we got a shitload of way to go. When we get to the bridge, I'm like, we still got another freaking... I don't care. And it's just... It was... You knew more. And even on the way down. Well, he knew more and then sent
SPEAKER_01:it to us. He started sending us articles about how people were dying. People were
SPEAKER_02:missing. Going off the trail. Because
SPEAKER_01:nobody told me. It's the ninth most dangerous
SPEAKER_02:hike. Nobody told me. Why are
SPEAKER_01:you sending us this stuff?
SPEAKER_02:Because I need you to understand that it's serious. And then I started getting survival equipment. I was like, I'm going to buy this. I'm going to buy this. And you know what? If we needed that stuff, we would have been fine. This time we took headlamps. We took flashlights. I took spikes. I mean, he had a blanket like that. The Mylar. Yeah, Mylar blankets. I mean, we were good. Even though we hiked in the dark for like two hours, a little over two hours, right? Yeah. But we were good. I mean, even being more prepared for dark. Yes. I think would have given me more confidence to move on. Right. And it wasn't like, to me, we were way more prepared this year. But last year, it seemed like we got it done quicker. And last year, I did fear for my life. And there were times when I'm like, I fell at least four to five times and rolled my ankle and almost fell off the cliff. This time, I was like, I'm good. I got the spikes. I got everything I need. But it still felt longer. It felt so much longer. It took forever, dog, to get down. And I'm like, okay. It felt like forever. We got down sooner, though. Yes. And so we're going down. I was like, man, Dilley's got to be at the truck. He's got to be at the truck. And then we see a light. We're like, Dilley! She's like, hey! And I was like, oh, my God. I'm
SPEAKER_01:on a never-ending fucking
SPEAKER_02:trail. I was like, oh, my God.
SPEAKER_01:He's still on
SPEAKER_02:the
SPEAKER_01:trail. With the headlight, and I'm looking all the way. They're way up there. And then when I was like... Where's Dan? And they were like, look, top shelf. And I look up there and Dan's like, what's up? And they were way up there. And then I'm still in it. Like they're as high as they are. And I'm looking down and I still can't see the top of the bottom. Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. How much further is this? It was, it was far. Okay. So maybe I'm out. Those are all the questions we had. Your family, you, would you do it? Blah, blah. Okay. So when is the next time you're going to do it? This weekend. This weekend. I don't know apparently what a year and a half. No, we said till Mia was 17. So that's 15 years. Yeah, but you can't wait that long. You got to practice. Right, 15? It'll take him that long. Wow. Yeah, Val's like Adrian. He's like, you're not going to make it. I'm going to do it.
SPEAKER_03:You
SPEAKER_02:can't win. You can't win, Ron. Oh, man. You can't win. What are you afraid of? Man, she was so cold-blooded. That's the kind of motivation I need. Yeah. Hey, dog. Everybody, you know, takes stuff differently. Okay, great. So we appreciate you coming on the podcast. I appreciate being on. Yeah, so I'm going to edit it, and then it'll be out Tuesday. Are we good? Well, I mean, I think it's two weeks. That's why I needed to get him on here. All right. Any other topics you would like to see on the Chivalry Chronicles? Let's see. They don't know movies. I was going to say. Blood in, blood out. They don't know movies. They don't know movies like I know movies. He doesn't know movies.
SPEAKER_01:He doesn't know music. I think we just don't
SPEAKER_02:like the same things.
SPEAKER_01:We have some overlap. Dave's the one who's on a whole other island. On a yacht rock island.
SPEAKER_02:On music, I agree. Disco and a lot of boogie and soul. I don't know what he likes, dog. Everything is trash.
SPEAKER_01:I don't know. He likes Yacht Rock and Banda.
SPEAKER_02:Every once in a while, I find myself liking some of David's music. No, you don't. That's a good song. No, you don't. Don't lie to yourself. You're in a bad place. I know. I'm quite eclectic. So next time you think of a topic, come on by. All right. Because we always need... We got to keep churning the bottom of the roster in the Chivalry Chronicles. Batman, best Batman movies, ranking Batman movies. Marvel. We need to have a Marvel one. Leo's already on. He's like, we need to redo Marvel. To rank the Marvel movies? No, just talk about the Marvel universe, the movies.
UNKNOWN:Okay.
SPEAKER_02:Because last time we did movies, I had one person that doesn't like real movies and one person that didn't like fantasy movies.
SPEAKER_01:And I'm like, you can't just say real movies. I don't like movies that have a
SPEAKER_02:straight up drama component.
SPEAKER_01:Did
SPEAKER_02:you not say this is too real?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it can't be something that is realistic drama. I like things that are action, fantasy. If it's going to have a dramatic plot, it has to be something that is also in the fantasy realm. It's so dramatic, even a political thriller, that it's just not going to happen. And what was the
SPEAKER_02:other one? What was David?
SPEAKER_01:What do you mean?
SPEAKER_02:David didn't watch fantasy movies. Oh, that's right. Yeah. But he also doesn't watch anything twice and he can't remember anything that he did watch. Terrible. Terrible. This is terrible. Can't
SPEAKER_01:talk movies. Yeah, at all. You know what, though? I mean, I remember some of the dramatic movies that I saw a long time ago. That's part of what informed me that I don't really like drama.
SPEAKER_02:So when we did stop that movies, I'm like, these are the worst people to... You like a lot of my list. But Tombstone is a real movie. Those are actual events. You're okay with that. How long ago is that? How realistic is that for today? That's like the 1890s. I also like 310 to Yuma, but there's a lot of action. Some of the stuff is real, but some of it is not. Modern Westerns, that's a great genre. I love Westerns. Because you're not going to see
SPEAKER_01:that today. What I'm
SPEAKER_02:telling you is, don't give me a political thriller today. I'm saying, why are we limiting ourselves? A young-ass president who might hit the... But why are we limiting ourselves? It's too real. In this podcast right now. All right. Thank you, MT. We appreciate you. And Val. Val, thank you so much. There's DLH. What up? He doesn't watch real movies. Thank you.
